Founding Purpose and Educational Goals

(1) Mission:

We aim to cultivate comprehensive talents with the marine literacy, foreign language and digital knowledge, and also specialized in the use of marine cultural and creative resources, cultural and creative product design and cultural and creative industry management.

 

(2) Background:

In the post-industrial era during the wave of globalization, mobile devices have become the mainstream communication medium. Great changes have taken place in both the globalization model on the industrial side, and the rising IOT on the consumer-side, during which the cultural and creative industry has sprung up and became the cultural, social, and economic element receiving increasing international attention. In the face of this trend, not only the government has formulated relevant policies and laws, but the development trend of cultural and creative industry among the folks is also in the ascendant. In terms of development trend, it is necessary for Taiwan to cultivate more talents in the cultural and creative industry to assist in the development of social culture and industrial transformation in response to the global trend and national needs.

Taiwan is surrounded by the sea and features a unique marine nature and culture. However, among the many cultural and creative industry departments within the universities, there has not been a teaching and research unit that uses the marine culture as a foundation and incorporates marine awareness within to highlight the natural and humanistic characteristics of Taiwan's ocean. "Marine" had been our developing feature ever since the university was founded. Considering the national and international emerging industries, national legislation and policy needs, local transformation and development, and social responsibility practices, the university finds it necessary to establish a bachelor program in cultural creative design with oceanic features to cultivate cultural creative design talents with marine humanistic literacy, digital knowledge and internationalized capabilities, to benefit the development of social culture and economy, and continue to enhance the contributions of Taiwan Ocean University.

 

(3) Education Goals:

  4. Cultivate cultural and creative industry management talents

  5. Enhance the collaboration and internship between the university and cultural and creative industries

  4. Recognize the cultural and creative values

  2. Have the ability to appreciate marine culture and art

  3. Have the professional ability in the design of cultural and creative products

  4. Have the skills in the management of cultural and creative industries

  5. Have the motivation to engage in social care

 

(6) Development Focus

The department aims to cultivate overall cultural and creative design talents to be equipped with the knowledge of marine literacy, foreign language and digital literacy and be specialized in the use of cultural and creative resources, cultural and creative product design, and cultural and creative industry management. In addition to providing specialized courses in the above three fields, it also integrates off-campus resources to strengthen industry-university links and cross-disciplinary practical learning to enhance employment prospects.
